Who we are

A real West Orange shop, not a lead form

Maccabi Plumbing & Heating works out of 300 Executive Drive in West Orange, Essex County, and covers 22 towns across northern New Jersey. Livingston, Verona, Montclair, Maplewood, Clifton, Passaic, Millburn, Morristown, and the rest of the corridor are all a short drive from the shop. On any given week we might be swapping a water heater in South Orange in the morning and chasing a steam knock in a Montclair colonial that afternoon.

We do residential and commercial. That means a homeowner with a leaking shut-off valve gets the same licensed plumber a property manager gets for a backflow test on a commercial building. There is no call center in between.

Maccabi Plumbing & Heating is a licensed NJ master plumber and heating contractor based in West Orange, running on New Jersey Master Plumber License #13345. I'm Morey Katzourin, the owner, and I started this shop in 2019 after roughly fifteen years of hands-on plumbing work across Essex, Passaic, and Morris counties. We are fully bonded and insured, we handle both homes and commercial buildings, and we answer emergency calls 24 hours a day, Monday through Saturday. This is a real West Orange business with a name and a license behind it, not a lead form that sells your call to whoever bids highest.

What Is a Master Plumber, and Why the License Matters

A master plumber holds the highest plumbing license the state issues, which means they can pull permits, design systems, and supervise other plumbers, while a journeyman or apprentice works under supervision. New Jersey licenses master plumbers through the State Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers after years of apprenticeship, journeyman experience, and a state exam (NJ Division of Consumer Affairs, njconsumeraffairs.gov).

That distinction matters more than most homeowners realize. Anyone can buy a van and print "plumber" on the side. A licensed master plumber has cleared the state's requirements, carries a number that lives in a public database, and can legally pull the permits your water heater or gas work actually requires under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code (nj.gov/dca). Our number is #13345 (full state license #36BI01334500). You can look it up yourself on the Division of Consumer Affairs record. We lead with it because it is the one thing an unlicensed handyman cannot show you.

The Work We Do

Our scope runs from a dripping faucet to a full steam boiler, which is unusual for a shop this size. We cover water heater and heating services, pipe and water-line repair, drains and sewer lines, sump and ejector pumps, gas leak detection and backflow, plus kitchen and bathroom plumbing.

Northern New Jersey is old-house country, and that shapes the work. A lot of the homes here are pre-1950 colonials still running on steam or hydronic heat, with cast-iron drain stacks and galvanized supply lines that have been quietly rusting shut for decades. I've spent enough time in those basements to know that a "slow drain" in a 1928 house and a "slow drain" in a 1995 build are two different jobs. We are Navien Certified for tankless and high-efficiency heating, Backflow Certified to test and repair prevention devices, and OSHA Certified for job-site safety. If a pipe bursts at 2 a.m. on a Tuesday, our 24-hour emergency plumbing covers it, Monday through Saturday.

Community

Rooted in the northern-NJ community

A good share of our work comes by referral, and word of mouth around West Orange, Passaic, and Clifton has shaped how we run the business. Our hours are honest. Open around the clock Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday. If someone tells you a plumber is available "every day," ask which days, because ours are Monday through Saturday and we say so plainly.

Being trusted by neighbors who hire on word of mouth keeps you honest in a way advertising never will. If a job goes sideways, the whole block hears about it by Sunday dinner. That is the standard we work to.
